So This is The New Year

Happy 2017! Can you believe it? Whether 2016 was an amazing or appalling year for you, it was definitely one of complexity and chaos. Good, bad, or ugly; I am happy it is over and am holding out hope for a great year for all of us.

I’m not really big on New Year’s Resolutions. While I love strict goals and deadlines, the fact that I have a whole year to accomplish something means I probably won’t. I work best under pressure and 12 months just usually doesn’t motivate me enough. This year, however, I’ve decided to borrow a concept that others have had a ton of success with. At the beginning of every year, they pick a word that will be what shepherds them through the next 365 days. Often, this words have multiple layers or meanings and often change throughout the year as people and situations change. The word, however, remains the Polaris of that person’s year; helping to keep them on track and guiding their decisions, motivations, and routines. This idea really stuck with me as I thought about how an overall concept could be a great motivator and director.

Without further ado, my 2017 word of the year is AMBITION

Let me explain. It’s easy to have great ideas and grand plans. It’s simple to see areas of your life that you wish were different. For me, however, the hard part is the bridge between the two. How do I travel from where I am to where I want to be? Some people might say discipline or action or any number of things. And they’d be right, for them. For me, however, the thing is ambition. The act of wanting something so desperately that you’re willing to take action to get it. The time for action is now. The time for planning has passed.

I know that my manifestation of the word will change over the next year, and I look forward to seeing where it takes me. Here’s what I know for now: that I’m embracing my inner Slytherin (Pottermore never lies, I guess), arming myself with Paris Gellar quotes, and moving forward to take on–and take over–the world.
What do you want 2017 to be?

xoxo,

Dawn
